Position: Assistant Professor (as of August 2017)

Interests: Science and Risk Communication, Strategic Communication, Communication Technology, Media Psychology, and Quantitative Research Methods

Joining the Department of Communication in August 2017, Dr. Lull will teach Persuasion, Theories of Human Communication, and Communication of Science and Technology.

Dr. Lull’s research addresses the intersections of science communication, risk communication, and strategic communication, focusing on the influence of emotional arousal on information processing and risk perceptions. His current research emphasizes risk perceptions of Zika virus and biotechnology. His previous research has examined principles of effective strategic communication and has been featured in outlets such as the BBC, Harvard Business Review, and Bloomberg, in addition to informing advertising industry policy in the United States and Sweden.

He has published in outlets such as Psychological Bulletin, Psychology of Popular Media Culture, and Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, and has two chapters in the forthcoming Oxford Handbook of the Science of Science Communication.

Dr. Lull is an active member of several organizations, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), International Communication Association (ICA), and Society for Risk Analysis (SRA).

Dr. Lull currently holds the Vartan Gregorian Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania. He will be joining the Department of Communication at Fresno State in August 2017.
