The Great God Pan
By Amy Herzog
Directed by Kathleen McKinley
March 24 – April 1, 2017
Venue: Dennis and Cheryl Woods Theatre
About the play:
Life seems fine for Jamie: a partner, a journalism career, and parents who live just
far enough away. But when a childhood trauma is revealed, everything is thrown into
a tailspin. A tale of what is lost and won when the truth is exposed.
From the playwright:
Like all my plays, The Great God Pan is... about well-meaning people failing each
other and living with that failure.
About the playwright:
Ms. Herzog, author of “After the Revolution” and “4000 Miles,” has emerged in the past few years as one of the bright theatrical lights of her generation. (Another new play by Ms. Herzog, the sensational “Belleville,” opens at New York Theater Workshop this spring.) She writes with a keen sensitivity
to the complex weave of feelings embedded in all human relationships, with particular
attention to the way we tiptoe around areas of radioactive emotion. Ms. Herzog makes
quietly captivating dramas of our instinct to avoid drama, noting how momentous events
in our lives can pass by almost without registering on the surface.
Reviews for the playwright and script of The Great God Pan:
"Haunting, deeply affecting, and unfailingly honest. Amy Herzog is one of the bright
theatrical lights of her generation." (Charles Isherwood, NY Times)
"Remarkable and revelatory. Whatever the ideal contemporary American drama is, it has
to look a lot like 'The Great God Pan.'" (Jesse Oxfeld, NY Observer)
Suitability:
Adult language and mature themes are explored within the play.
