About the production:
A poetic and brutal examination into the complexity of colorism and its roots in slavery. The play follows a man and woman from childhood through adulthood, as they navigate colorism, class, abuse, and racism.

Mature audiences due to strong language and mild violence.

Production Synopsis:
A multi-character memory play about an African-American woman who dreams of life beyond the confines of her small town, southern upbringing and the light-skinned man whose fate is tragically intertwined with hers. The play explores the negative associations surrounding male blackness, as well as the impact these racial stereotypes have on black women from childhood to adulthood, as they face abuse, cyclical violence, and racism.

Production Concept:
Through flashbacks the production examines the dysfunctional attributes associated with the intra-racial caste system blacks have continued since slavery. Originally intended to be presented by two actors performing a variety of characters on a bare stage, the director has chosen to increase the cast to 4, each playing a number of characters.
