Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures
Degrees, Programs and Language Courses
The Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures houses two undergraduate majors: Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Spanish and French. Special Majors in Classical Studies, Humanities, and German are available in conjunction with a detailed plan between the student and advisor for that language. The Department offers several minors: in Classics, French, French and Francophone Studies, German, Humanities, Italian Studies, Portuguese, Portuguese Studies, and Spanish.
Undergraduate Studies
The MCLL department offers majors in Spanish and French. Many of our major students also undertake the subject matter preparation programs in Spanish or French in order to become high school or middle school language teachers.
We also offer special majors in Classical Studies, Humanities, German, and Italian Studies. Faculty advisors need to be contacted in those areas for special studies.
We collaborate with the Department of Linguistics to offer the B.A. option in language studies.
Additionally, the MCLL department offers minors in several areas: Classical Studies, French, German, Italian Studies, Portuguese Studies, and Spanish.

Additional Programs
The department has programs for those who wish to be middle and high school teachers of French and Spanish. We offer courses to prepare those who wish to be bilingual/ cross-cultural teachers in elementary schools.We also offer courses in Italian, Portuguese, and other languages to the surrounding community.
