North American Computational Linguistics Open (NACLO)

NACLO 2026 Open Round Competition | January 29, 2026 - 9:00AM to 12:00PM | Fresno State - Peters Business Building, Room 390
Check-in time: 8:30AM (Pre-registered participants only)

Students who qualify in the open round competition will be eligible to compete in the NACLO Invitational Round, which will be held on March 19, 2026, and students who qualify in the NACLO invitational round will be eligible to compete in the International Linguistics Olympiad to be held in Bucharest, Romania in July 2026.

About NACLO

NACLO is a fun contest for high school students who are interested in solving linguistic puzzles. Through these puzzles, students are introduced to the diversity and consistency of language, while exercising logic skills. No prior knowledge of linguistics or second languages is necessary. Winners of NACLO are eligible to compete in the International Linguistics Olympiad.

Professionals in linguistics, computational linguistics, language technologies and artificial intelligence use dozens of languages to create engaging problems that represent cutting edge issues in their fields. The competition has attracted top students to study and work in those same fields.
