Laura Meyer received her PhD in Art History from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 2003. She also holds an MFA in painting from California State University, Los Angeles.

Her publications on contemporary art issues include A Studio of Their Own: the Legacy of the Fresno Feminist Experiment ( Fresno State Press); “The Woman’s Building and Los Angeles’ Leading Role in the Feminist Art Movement,” in the e-book, [From Site to Vision] the Woman’s Building in Contemporary Culture, edited by Sondra Hale and Terry Wolverton, http://fromsitetovision.org (2007); and “Power and Pleasure: Feminist Art Practice and Theory in the United States and Britain,” in A Companion to Contemporary Art Since 1945, edited by Amelia Jones (Boston: Blackwell Publishers, 2006). She is currently writing a book on Louise Bourgeois and the Abstract Expressionist Movement.

Dr. Meyer is Associate Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art at California State University , Fresno. She teaches upper division courses on 19th Century Modern Art, 20th Century Modern Art, and Contemporary Art Since 1945. Her graduate seminars have covered topics including Theories of Modernism and Postmodernism, Pop Art, French Impressionism, and the Legacy of the Feminist Art Movement.

In Fall 2009 Dr.Meyer organized the Studio of their Own exhibition and symposium at Fresno State.
