Douglas Fraleigh is the University Faculty Director of Assessment and a Professor in the Department of Communication. He served as Department Chair for eight years and Director of Forensics for fourteen years. He was the College of Arts and Humanities Assessment Coordinator for five years and chaired the university's first Oral Communication Core Competency assessment. Dr. Fraleigh is the co-author of Freedom of Expression in the Marketplace of Ideas (Sage) and Speak Up! An Illustrated Guide to Public Speaking (Bedford/St Martin's). He serves on the editorial board for First Amendment Studies and Communication Law and Policy. He served as chair of the Western States Communication Freedom of Expression Interest Group and Finance Committee. Professor Fraleigh also served as President of the Northern California Forensics Association and chaired the Cross Examination Debate Association Pacific District and National Individual Events Tournament District I.
