Martin Valencia is a graphic designer and an educator. He complements the California
State University, Fresno graphic design faculty after having been employed at the
University of Arizona as a graphic design supervisor and adjunct professor. He received
his BFA degree in graphic design with dual major in illustration from the Northern
Arizona University and his MFA degree in graphics and illustration from the University
of Arizona. He received a Post-BAC degree in Art Education from the University of
Arizona and holds a K-12 Art teaching certificate from the State of Arizona. He is
also currently working on his Ph.D. in Education with an emphasis in literacy and
technology.
Professor Valencia's research and interests include: Design's cultural, sociohistorical
context; Synectics; Semiotics; Design as an educational tool; Visual Literacy and
Technology; and Children's Book Illustration.
