Betsy A. Hays, APR, Fellow PRSA, is a Public Relations and Advertising Professor in
the Department of Media, Communications and Journalism at Fresno State and served
as Chair of the department from 2018-2022. She has taught for MCJ since Fall 1999.
Prof. Hays is the faculty adviser for the Public Relations Student Society of America
(PRSSA) and serves as the instructor for Fresno State’s student-run PR firm, TALK. She has won numerous teaching and professional awards and was inducted as an MCJ Fellow
in 2017 — a special mid-career honor that is part of the MCJ Alumni & Friends Hall
of Fame. She was the 2017-2018 Fresno State Service-Learning Scholar and served for three
years as the Associate Director for the Coleman Fellows through the Lyles Center for Innovation
& Entrepreneurship at Fresno State. Active in the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) since 1998, including two
terms as president of the Central California Chapter, she is a past chair of the Board
of Directors for the North Pacific District. Through PRSA National, Betsy earned her
“APR” designation as an accredited PR pro and was inducted into the prestigious PRSA
College of Fellows. She was named Outstanding Club/Organization Adviser in 2013, Outstanding Adviser in 2010 and selected as one of the
Provost’s Promising New Tenure-Track Faculty Members in 2008. She received Fresno
State’s “Spirit of Service” Award in 2010 for her work infusing service-learning into
her public relations curricula. Betsy was named the Central California Chapter of PRSA’s Public Relations Professional
of the Year in 2000 and is the co-author of three books: Win & Wow: Public Relations Secrets for Everyday Success, Land Your Dream Career in College: The Complete Guide to Success, and Life After College: 10 Steps to Build A Life You Love.
