Cody Forcier joined the Music Faculty at California State University, Fresno, as a
Lecturer of Tuba in the Fall of 2021. He also teaches Tuba at Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno, Nevada. He has served for 18 years as a music educator and 25 years as a low brass performer in
the Reno-Tahoe area. Cody earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University
of Nevada, Reno, and a Master of Music in Tuba Performance degree from the University
of Oregon. During his time in Oregon, Mr. Forcier was a Graduate Teaching Fellow
for the University of Oregon Athletic Bands and the Adjunct Professor of Low Brass
at Linfield College from 2004-06. He has taught elementary music, 6th grade beginning bands, middle school bands and choirs, and high school bands while
maintaining a private low brass studio with some of the best students in the county
and state. Cody has taught low brass at the Lake Tahoe Music Camp for ten years, the
University of Oregon Summer Music Camp, the Hayward La Honda Music Camp, eNVision
Performing Arts, and the Reno Pops Orchestra Virtual Summer Music Camp 2020. Mr.
Forcier recently presented low brass clinics at Fresno City College, CASMEC 2019,
and the Plumas County Virtual Solo and Ensemble Contest 2021. He has extensive work
experience as a Stage Manager, Music Librarian, and Music Retail Educator Sales Representative.
Cody is an accomplished performer and won the Harvey Phillips Northwest Big Brass
Bash Graduate Tuba Solo Contest in Eugene, Oregon, in 2005, and was a finalist in
Boise, Idaho, in 2004, and received the University of Oregon Outstanding Graduate
Brass Performer Achievement Award. He has played Tuba, Euphonium and Bass Trombone
with groups such as the Reno Philharmonic, Eugene Symphony, Reno Jazz Orchestra, Nevada
Opera, Western Nevada Musical Theater, Reno Wind Symphony, Reno Municipal Band, Toccata
Tahoe Symphony Orchestra Chorus, David Gupton Jazz Band, Ruby Mountain Symphony, Sucka
Punch, Maximum Brass Septet, The Hickman Brass, St. John’s Presbyterian Church Brass,
GPG Music Publishing, Our Virtual Ensemble, Wind Symphony of Clovis, Sequoia Symphony,
Tuba Christmas, Scott Sutherland’s Virtual “Tuba Bells Are Ringing” 2020, brass quintets,
brass choirs, and German-style bands. He recorded on the Reno Jazz Orchestra’s newest
CD, Spirits featuring the music of Earth Wind and Fire, released in 2021.
Cody studied low brass primarily with his mentors Dr. A.G. “Mack” McGrannahan III,
and with Michael Grose the Arnold Jacobs pedagogue. He has pursued additional tuba
studies with Rex Martin at Northwestern University, Sam Pilafian, Pat Sheridan, Dr.
Kevin Wass, Ellis Wean, Velvet Brown, Dr. Adam Frey, Tommy Johnson, Jim Self, Don
Harry, Wesley Jacobs, Dr. Adam Snider, Dr. Deanna Swoboda, and Gene Pokorny. He has
pursued professional development in the Symphony Orchestra of the Pacific in British
Columbia (CAN), the Las Vegas Summer Music Festival, and the Conn-Selmer Institute
with Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser.
Cody is a member of the Fresno State Faculty Brass Quintet, the Fresno State Tuba
Euphonium Ensemble and Trombone Ensemble, the Fresno Madera California Music Educator
Association, the International Tuba Euphonium Association, and is an Alumni of Phi
Mu Alpha Sinfonia’s Xi Delta Chapter. He has been an active adjudicator, clinician,
conductor, coach, committee chair, and honor groups and festival coordinator for OMEA,
NMEA and CMEA.
