College of Arts and Humanities Commencement

Faculty in regalia at graduation with red and blue department standards in the background.

Welcome to the CAH Commencement page.

Graduation is just two and a half weeks away! I hope you are all doing well, and managing self care as we head into finals. A couple of quick updates:

  • Our last Zoom Q&A session will take place next week, on Thursday, May 8 at 11:15am. Please check your email for the link or reach out to me directly. (The recording of the first one is here - passcode 9EL+Rtdy; and the Google slides are here.)
  • All students eligible for honor cords have been contacted, and your mandatory photography cards will be available for pick up in your department offices starting Monday.

Many of you are probably wondering what you need to do to prepare for graduation, so I have created a checklist:

  1. Register for the ceremony by Wednesday, May 7. This is a hard deadline - I must get our program to the printers the next day.
This is a separate process from Applying for Graduation from the University! If you miss the deadline, you may still participate, but your name may not be featured in the program or featured in your preferred way. If you are unsure if you registered, please contact me rather than completing a second registration.
  2. Purchase your regalia:
    • Cap, gown, and tassel (white for bachelor’s degree, black for master’s).
    • White master’s hood if you are receiving your MA.
  3. College stoles are still available. Any purchases made after May 4 must be picked up from the dean’s office.
  4. Learn what department your major is housed in! That is who you will line up with and how we organize seating.
  5. Pick up your pre-printed photography card from your department office, starting Monday, May 5:
    • Art, Design, and Art History: CA 105
    • Communication & Linguistics: SA 15
    • English: PB 382
    • Media, Communications and Journalism: MF 236
    • Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures: PB 393
    • School of Music: MB 134
    • Philosophy: MB 102
    • Theatre and Dance: SA 33
  6. Put your photography card in a safe place - you will need it at the Commencement Ceremony!
  7. If you need any accommodations, let me know; if your guests need any accommodations, they can call guest services at the Save Mart Center (ADA seating cannot be reserved, it is first-come-first-served).
  8. Familiarize yourself with the Save Mart Center’s entrance policies, and share them with your guests. This will help them get through security faster.
  9. Arrive in plenty of time to find parking and get to the loading dock of the Save Mart Center (right off of Chestnut, closest side to Campus Pointe) by 9:30am on May 16.
    • Only wear your cap and any leis, etc., your family has given you - carry your gown and stoles over your arm.
    • Bring your photography card!
  10. Tell your guests to give themselves plenty of time! Parking will be impacted and they will need to go through security.
  11. Follow directions from all staff and volunteers throughout the ceremony - be kind to them and to your fellow graduates.
  12. ENJOY YOUR MOMENT ON STAGE! You’ve earned this!

It all seems overwhelming, but I have plenty of staff to guide you through every step of the way, and it is our goal to make it a fabulous experience for all of you. Take care, see you on the 8th for our Zoom session, and then on the 16th for the ceremony!

As always, don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Kind regards,

Brenna
