Dr. Laurel Hendrix joined the English Department faculty in 1990. Her teaching interests
include late medieval and early modern literature, and she has taught courses in Renaissance
and Restoration, eighteenth century British literature, Spenser, Shakespeare, Chaucer,
Milton, Arthurian literature, medieval and Renaissance world literature, and early
modern women writers. Dr. Hendrix has presented numerous conference papers at regional,
national, and international conferences, and has published articles on Spenser, Chaucer,
and Marguerite de Navarre in journals including English Literary Renaissance, Spenser Studies, Exeinpiaria, and Thalia. Her current research focuses on chaos complexity theory and its applications to
early modern romance-epic narratives. From 1999-2002, Dr. Hendrix served as the president
of the Renaissance Conference of Southern California, a regional affiliate of the
Renaissance Society of America. Dr. Hendrix has also been active in the department’s
composition program, having coordinated the Writing Center (1991-92) and English A
(1993-96). Dr. Hendrix is a member of the Highway 168 Fire Safe Council and is a volunteer
firefighter for the Pine Ridge Volunteer Fire Department.
