Tim has a B.A. from UCLA in History magna cum laude and a Juris Doctor from the University
of Santa Clara. He clerked for the Presiding Justice of the California Court of Appeal
in Fresno for two years and then entered private law practice, where he has done primarily
business litigation and intellectual property for over 30 years.
He also has done significant work representing the news media in defending lawsuits
brought against them, responding to subpoenas and securing access to courts and government
records.
He is married to Julie Olson-Buchanan, a professor in the Department of Management
and they have two daughters, Claire and Beth.
