Marietta Dalpez, M.A. is a lecturer in the Media, Communications and Journalism department at California
State University, Fresno. In her role, Ms. Dalpez teaches face-to-face (F2F), hybrid,
and virtual asynchronous courses. She began working with adult learners in 2011 in
the Journalism program at Fresno City College, where she taught Jour 1: Introduction to Mass Communication and Jour 16: Race, Gender, and the Media. She also taught Professional Career Development and Interpersonal Communication at Heald College.
Ms. Dalpez earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Management and Organizational Development
at Fresno Pacific University in 1996 and her Master of Arts degree in Mass Communication
and Journalism at CSU Fresno in 2004. She also received a Certificate for Community
College Faculty Preparation in 2011 and a Certificate for Teaching Online Using Quality
Learning and Teaching (QLT) in 2019. In 2022, Ms. Dalpez was awarded the President's
Cultural Competency Certificate, affirming her commitment to building a strong and
inclusive Fresno State community. Ms. Dalpez is also certified as an Undocu-Ally,
a partner in a university-wide network of easily visible allies that can provide support,
information, and assistance to Dreamer/Undocumented students. In 2023, she earned
a digital credential and certificate in AI Tools for Teaching and Learning.
An advocate for student-centered learning, Ms. Dalpez strives to engage students in
active learning using collaborative teaching strategies and technology to enhance
traditional instruction. In addition to lectures, students engage in small and large
group activities centered around writing, discussing, problem solving, and reflecting.
Prior to teaching, Ms. Dalpez worked in Human Resources at The Fresno Bee, specializing in recruitment and employee training and development. She was involved
in every step of the selection process for entry-level, supervisory, and managerial
positions. This included reviewing resumés and applications, skills testing, interviewing,
and making recommendations to hiring managers. She began her career in mass media
as a teenager performing commercial voice overs for radio stations in Fresno. She
also worked in local and national advertising at the CBS television affiliate in Fresno.
Ms. Dalpez has three adult children, four grandchildren, one dog and six granddogs.
When she is not in the classroom, she trains as a voice actor, spends time with family
and friends, enjoys singing, painting, gardening, traveling, shopping, and serving
as a Neighborhood Team volunteer at The Well Community Church - Fig Garden Campus.
Ms. Dalpez enjoys listening to Baroque piano music, Hawaiian slack key guitar music,
and contemporary Christian worship music. She is a huge fan of the MCU, Star Wars, and films based on the works of Jane Austen.
