Lenore Hiebert

Lenore Hiebert has taught at CSU Fresno since 2020.  Prior to that she was one of two staff collaborative pianists in the music department for a number of years, a position she was appointed to in 1987 when she first moved to Fresno.  Ms. Hiebert came to Fresno from Lincoln, Nebraska and Oshkosh, Wisconsin where she had accompanying appointments at the University of Lincoln, Nebraska and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, respectively.  Her M.M. degree in Piano Performance was from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and other studies took place in Anchorage, Alaska; in Dresden in the former East Germany; and as an auditor at the Summer Sessions of the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria.  Ms. Hiebert’s undergraduate degree in piano was from Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas where she also studied voice and oboe and from which she obtained a K-12 teaching credential.

As a collaborative pianist at Fresno State, Ms. Hiebert was responsible for accompanying student degree recitals, department choirs, opera workshops, faculty recitals, candidate audition recitals, festivals, and more.  She served each year as the local pianist for the department’s annual oboe and bassoon festival, playing for visiting artists from the San Francisco Symphony, the San Francisco Ballet and Opera, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony, the University of Texas at Austin, the Imani Winds, and many others.

Teaching responsibilities and interests as a Lecturer at Fresno State include being the instructor for four semesters of class piano; teaching sequences of music theory, music fundamentals, ear training and sight singing courses, studio lessons, accompanying classes, keyboard ensembles, and introduction to music (through keyboard instruction) courses for non-majors.

Ms. Hiebert performs often with her husband, horn professor Thomas Hiebert, as well as with other musicians in the area.  Additional professional activities include creating her own teaching materials, guides, and self-published, low-cost textbooks, such as her “Piano-Focused Fundamentals” workbook.  She has been a church musician from a young age, and continues to share accompanying duties at a local church.  Lenore is a member of the local piano teachers group, Music Teacher’s Association of California (MTAC), and maintains a small private piano teaching studio for pre- and post-college students.
